Come join the fun and learn to sew!Projects will involve some simple, but fundamental sewing techniques that canbe used to sew many different items (tote bags, accessory cases, etc.) Camperswill learn a variety of basic and essential sewing skills: • Machine threading• Bobbin winding • Changing feet and needles • Basic cutting • Reading and pinninga pattern • Drawstring casings • Sewing zippers • Topstitching with/withoutdecorative stitches • Using interfacing • Lining techniques • Handlingscissors, pins, seam rippers, tapes measures, etc. *Sewing machines areavailable to rent for the week.*

KIDS BEGINNER SUPPLY LIST

If your camper has no experience, please use this supply list. If they have already taken classes at Triangle please refer to the Kids intermediate sewing supply list provided.

THE BASICS OF SEWING JUST ABOUT ANYTHING

If you are using your own machine be sure that:

  • the machine is in good working order
  • bring the manual
  • the machine has standard accessories; regular foot, zipper foot, screwdriver, lint brush etc.

Sewing Supplies (bring these everyday)

  • fabric shears
  • stitch ripper
  • small scissors for “snipping “ threads
  • seam gauge
  • pins – 1” to 1 ½” in length
  • marking tool (pencil, chalk, erasable marker)
  • extra needles size 80/12 for cotton, 90/14 if using denim for backpack
  • extra bobbins (must be suitable for your machine)
  • ¼” foot (must be suitable for your machine)

PROJECT 1 - Pillowcase

(these are required for the first day)

  • Fabric 45” wide (115 cm) 100% cotton
    • ¾ yd (.7m) main fabric (25”)
    • 1/8 yd (.1m) fabric for thin strip (3”)
    • 1/8 yd (.15m) fabric for wide strip (5”)
  • Thread to match
  • Thread to contrast for decorative stitching and/or topstitching

PROJECT 2 - Lunch Bag

(these are required for the second day)

  • Fabric 45” wide (115 cm) 100% cotton
    • 2 pieces 15” long by 12” wide
  • 2” Velcro (soft and hard sides)
  • Thread to match fabric
  • 4” of ¼” Ribbon
  • 1” Button

PROJECT 3 - Backpack

(these are required when the child is close to finishing the previous project)

  • KWIK SEW pattern 3249 Triangle has stock
  • Fabric 45” wide (115 cm) 100% cotton (suitable for denim or twill woven fabric – not suitable for fabrics with stretch)
    • 5/8 yd (.50 m)
  • Thread to match
  • 1 yd (1 m) drawstring and drawstring stops to fit drawstring
  • 1 ½ yd (1.4 m) webbing for straps

PROJECT 4 - Pencil Case

(these are required when the child is close to finishing the previous project)

  • KWIK SEW pattern 3249 (same as backpack)
  • Fabric 45” wide (115 cm) 100% cotton
    • 11” x 16” outer fabric
    • 11” x 16” inner fabric (lining)
    • 11” x 16” iron-on interfacing (medium weight)
  • Thread to match
  • 12” zipper with plastic teeth

Camper’s Choice Project

For students who have already completed a session in ‘Learning the Basics’. Please consult Triangle staff or Rouby prior to selecting your project to purchase appropriate supplies. Be sure you have all the supplies required for the pattern.

If they have already taken classes at Triangle please use this one.

KIDS INTERMEDIATE SUPPLY LIST

  • Have your machine is in good working order with manual
  • Make sure that your machine has standard accessories (regular foot, zipper foot, screwdriver, lint brush etc.)

Sewing Supplies

  • Notepad
  • Measuring tape ( 60”)
  • Scissors for cutting
  • Small scissors for “snipping threads”
  • Stitch ripper
  • Seam gauge
  • Pins 1” to 1 ½” in length
  • Marking tool (pencil, chalk, erasable marker)
  • Carbon tracing paper
  • Tracing wheel
  • 12” Ruler
  • Hand sewing needles
  • Extra machine needles size 80/12 universal for cotton , 90/14 universal if using a bit thicker fabric like fleece or twill and 100/16 denim if using denim or really heavy fabric
  • Extra bobbins
  • Matching colour threads

Make sure that your pattern choice has been approved by a Triangle staff member or your instructor

Follow the requirements on the back of your pattern and bring all other necessary supplies.
