The half-square-triangle is one of the most common and versatile quilt blocks next to basic squares. In this class participants will learn various methods to create accurate half square triangles. We will cover the importance of accurate rotary cutting, ¼” seams, nesting seams, and techniques to ensure accurate points when working with half-square-triangles. Participants will use their blocks to create a small wall hanging or placemat quilt top 21” wide x 14” long. Play with your squares to select the layout you prefer! Intermediate level (some rotary cutting skills required)

Recommended Supply List

  • Sewing machine
  • ¼” foot for your machine (essential for accurate piecing)
  • Scissors
  • Sewing gauge
  • Stitch ripper
  • Rotary cutter
  • Rotary cutting ruler (recommend 6” or 6.5” x 24
  • Rotary cutting mat
  • Wool mat
  • Small iron

Fabric Requirements

If purchasing your own fabric;

Placemat Top Fabric Requirements

2 fat quarters - 1 fat quarter each of two fabric colours ( make sure fat quarter is a fat metric quarter – a minimum of 19.5” x width of fabric at least 22”-23” to ensure you have enough fabric to “square up” and remove selvedge before cutting.

Backing: 1 piece 17” x with of fabric at least 22”

Batting: 1 piece of 17” x 22”

Binding: ¼ meter or 10” of min 42” wide fabric

This class does not include sandwiching, quilting, or binding
