NEXT STEPS IN FREE MOTION QUILTING WORKSHOP (Intermediate)

Monday December 4th, 10:30 am - 4:30 pm

This class is designed for those who have attempted free motion quilting and who want to learn more patterning. Join us as you expand your skills with free motion quilting and learn motifs like swirls, waves and ocean currents, tear drop fill stitches, butterflies, geometry, dot to dot quilting, lettering to customize your quilts and several flower variations. You will also be shown how to use grids to make even the most basic quilt look spectacular! Prerequisite: Free Motion Machine Quilting Workshop/ or past practice with free motion quilting.

Supply List

  • Quilt sandwiches – 8-12, 12” squares with a cotton front, cotton backing & batting (80/20 Quilters Dream, Hobbs Heirloom or warm & natural recommended)- these sandwiches should be basted prior to the class.
  • A 12” ruler
  • Sewing machine in good working order- please bring your machine manual
  • Quilting Gloves recommended (Machingers or Fons and Porter)
  • A free motion foot (this must fit your machine)
  • Lower feed dog function on your machine- a must.
  • Thread to contrast slightly with the quilt sandwich kit fabric, your choice of thread- cotton 50wt preferred, you can also try decorative threads.
  • Machine Quilting needles 75/11 or Microtex 80/12 (or a variety pack of sizes recommended)
  • A notebook/paper, pencil and a black thin sharpie marker
  • Erasable fabric marking pen- “Frixion” or Heirloom washout blue marker.
  • Scissors
  • A supreme slider (recommended optional)
  • An extension table for your machine (recommended optional)
  • Lower needle function on your machine (recommended optional)
  • Speed adjust function on your machine (recommended optional)
  • Thread stand (optional)
  • Your lunch
  • A willingness to have fun!
